Morocco Overhauls Taxi License System to End Inheritance Practices

Abdelouafi Laftit, the Minister of the Interior, has decided to regulate the transfer of taxi licenses. New conditions have thus been defined.
In a circular addressed to the walis and governors, the minister lists the conditions for the admissibility of requests for the transfer of taxi licenses, the persons who can submit them, as well as the deadlines for their submission, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. He urged them to issue a "gubernatorial" decree to cancel any license as soon as they become aware of the death of its holder.
Only widows without income or in a situation of material and social precariousness, sons actually practicing the profession of taxi driver before the death of the license holder, disabled sons, adult sons, mothers or fathers without income or in a situation of material and social precariousness, are authorized to file a request for the transfer of a taxi license.
In this circular, Abdelouafi Laftit urges the walis and governors to no longer accept requests from people who are in a suitable material and social situation or have a stable and sufficient income. Finally, he calls on them to maintain taxi services. They must match the number of licenses operated to the needs of the prefecture or province.
