Morocco Outlines 4-Point Plan for Resolving Western Sahara Dispute

The Sahara issue is on the 2021 agenda of Moroccan diplomacy. Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, insists on a definitive political solution based on four criteria.
This solution was presented during a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives, reports Al Akhbar. The head of Moroccan diplomacy listed the four criteria. These are: Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara, the autonomy initiative as the only solution to this conflict, the participation of all parties in the search for a solution, and full respect for the principles and criteria adopted by the Security Council in all its resolutions since 2007.
For Mr. Bourita, the solution must be political, realistic, pragmatic, sustainable and consensual. No referendum is possible as recommended by the Polisario and its allies. He recalled that the Security Council has also adhered to this political solution in its resolution 2548 of October 30, 2020. The resolution cited Algeria five times, Bourita points out, while this country had not been cited in the resolutions prior to 2016, which implies that the adherence of this country is necessary throughout the process.
