Morocco Outlines Four Key Conditions for Easing COVID-19 Lockdown Measures

Moroccans eager to get out of confinement will still have to be patient. The head of government announced on Monday that "the deconfinement process will be initiated as soon as the epidemiological and logistical conditions are met," while reassuring that "preparations are underway."
This announcement was made during a session devoted to "the management of the health confinement for the post-May 20 period." It was before the two Houses of Parliament. El Otmani also listed four necessary conditions for the easing of confinement measures. These are, according to him, "the capacities of the health system, the potential for screening, the ability to track all cases and a sufficient stock of health equipment."
For him, it is essential that the health system has "sufficient capacities to manage and accommodate covid-19 infection cases, in accordance with a deconfinement scenario," while being prepared and able to treat other cases of illness, reports the MAP.
Among the conditions that can allow the easing of the current measures, the head of government has emphasized "the capacity to carry out tests for infected people quickly and to track contact persons." He announced, to this effect, that "efforts are being made in this direction in order to soon reach a daily capacity of 10,000 tests."
Regarding the condition related to the ability to track all cases and their contacts, he indicated that the Ministries of Health and the Interior are working on the creation of a computer application called "Wikayatona", the objective of which is to track probable cases of covid-19. According to El Otmani, the government has a "well-defined strategy based on clear conditions and principles, as well as on comprehensive and targeted sectoral measures for the lifting of confinement," says the MAP.
In addition to the mitigation measures outlined in stages, he stated that deconfinement also requires "accompanying measures according to the evolution of the epidemiological situation." The head of government also pointed out that the easing of confinement measures does not mean "an automatic lifting of all preventive measures of a personal or professional nature."
