Morocco's Oriental Region Emerges as New Tourism Hotspot

The tourism potential of the Oriental region is particularly strong. Moroccan and foreign journalists, influencers and travel agents were able to discover it during a roadshow organized by the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) with the support of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT).

Beach resort of Saïdia housing one of the largest marinas in the entire Mediterranean, golf courses in Saïdia, at the Ras El Ma (Cape of Water) resort and in the Marchica lagoon in Nador which presents an economic, biological, ecological and tourist interest, natural landscapes and mountains of the Beni Snassen, old medina of Oujda and its rich architectural heritage, sites with strong cultural and historical significance... Moroccan and foreign journalists, influencers and travel agents were able to discover the great multi-product tourism potential of the Oriental region and a unique diversity of landscapes as part of a roadshow organized by the CRT last Saturday, reports La MAP.

The Royal Initiative for the Development of the Oriental, launched in 2023, has mapped out a clear roadmap for the economic and tourism development of this region, assures the president of the CRT, Youssef Zaki, on the occasion of this promotional action, specifying that the Oriental region has experienced a significant leap in the structuring of the tourism sector. According to him, the Oriental region has 147 hotels offering accommodation capacity of more than 13,500 beds, allowing it to welcome a varied clientele and meet the expectations of each segment of visitors.

In the first half of the past year, the region recorded 252,608 overnight stays, an increase of 1.36% compared to the same period in 2023, said Mounir Kodiji, a member of the CRT and director of a travel agency, noting that June was particularly dynamic, with 97,147 overnight stays, representing an increase of 3.8%. The region is pleased with this improvement, but it does not intend to rest on its laurels. It aims high. According to Kodiji, structuring projects are underway, including the enhancement and upgrading of the beaches, as well as the operationalization of the "Oriental Express" desert train, which will offer unique experiences to visitors.
