Morocco Orders 30% Cut in Public Energy Use Amid Rising Costs

To cope with the rise in the energy bill, the authorities have asked local authorities to drastically reduce electricity consumption in public buildings and public lighting networks.
This measure was the subject of a circular from the Minister of the Interior addressed to the walis and governors. Thus, these local authorities are invited to urgently deploy a series of measures aimed at rationalizing the use of electricity. The objective, the note points out, is to reduce electricity consumption by 20% to 30% in public buildings as well as in public lighting networks.
The minister also called on local authorities to monitor their electricity consumption and ensure the deployment of the necessary measures within the framework of energy efficiency, in particular by using low-consumption light bulbs. An evaluation report on this consumption must be drawn up, thus making it possible to assess the impact of the new measures implemented, the same source recommends.
