Morocco’s Opposition Party Urges Action on Citizens Stranded Abroad Due to Travel Ban

The parliamentary group of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS, opposition) in the House of Representatives has sent correspondence to Parliament and to the head of Moroccan diplomacy, Nasser Bourita, asking them to look into the issue of Moroccans still stranded abroad, after the suspension by the Moroccan authorities of air links.
The situation of thousands of Moroccans still stranded abroad is a concern for the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS). In a statement to Le360, Rachid Hammouni, president of the PPS group, said he had sent three letters on Friday, January 14, 2022 to Rachid Talbi Alami, president of the first Chamber, to the president of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Affairs, Nadia Bouaida, and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
"In these letters, I outline the serious difficulties of stay faced by thousands of Moroccans still stranded abroad for more than a month, since the closure of Morocco’s borders," he specified, adding that he receives a large number of calls every day from Moroccan citizens stranded abroad in deplorable conditions. The deputy Rachid Hammouni said he had requested the convening of the Parliamentary Commission on Foreign Affairs.
In the letter sent to the President of the House of Representatives, the elected official requests the examination of the problem of Moroccans stranded abroad as an "urgent issue" to be raised with the head of Moroccan diplomacy during the next parliamentary session of oral questions.
