Morocco’s Opposition Party Proposes Salary Cuts for Top Officials to Boost Economic Recovery

To relaunch the economy after the covid-19 crisis, the Party of Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) makes proposals to the government. Among these are the reduction of the salaries of all senior civil servants of the State and the suppression of the allowances of parliamentarians and ministers.
In a document addressed to the Prime Minister’s Office, entitled "National Program for Rapid Economic and Social Takeoff", the PAM suggests to the government to carry out the expenses related to the lifting of confinement and then the state of health emergency, exclusively on the operating budget, and to avoid drawing on the investment budget which will be used for the economic and financial recovery.
The PAM also demands that new control mechanisms be put in place in the management of public finances, particularly in the event that the government finds itself obliged to resort to debt to fill a deficit. It also proposes to reduce exports, or at least to rationalize them.
In the same logic, the PAM wishes a priority opening of public markets for the benefit of Moroccan small and medium-sized enterprises, and support for large companies so that they can participate in international tenders. Better, it asks the government to grant these companies, "a tax amnesty", while insisting on a strengthening of taxation on high salaries in the public and private sectors.
In conclusion, the PAM calls for an immediate reduction in the salaries of senior civil servants of the State and the suppression of all allowances paid to ministers and parliamentarians.
