Morocco’s Olympic Bronze Fuels King Mohammed VI’s Football Ambitions

King Mohammed VI has big ambitions for Moroccan football. The monarch does not skimp on the means to make Morocco a continental and international football power.
Morocco’s defeat against Spain (1-2) in the semi-finals of the Olympic football tournament would have greatly disappointed Mohammed VI, who was confident that the Atlas Lions would reach the final, says El Debate. Tarik Sektioui’s men ultimately settled for the bronze medal after correcting Egypt 6-0 in the classification match.
"It is a source of pride for all Moroccans. It shows that football is on the right track, that we are making good progress. Moroccan football is trying to become a world power. We must succeed after our journey at the World Cup, the progress we have shown, we must continue our momentum," Sektioui said after Morocco’s historic performance.
In the dynamic of making Morocco a continental and international football power, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has recently signed an agreement with the OCP group and several private partners to set up a fund dedicated to the development of training centers and the promotion of young talents.
"This common commitment aims not only to transform football in Morocco, but also to consolidate its position on the international sports scene, by offering a promising future to the younger generations and reaffirming Morocco’s position as a leader in sports development in the region," sources from the FRMF said.
