Morocco Offers 370,000 Tons of Discounted Fertilizer to Boost African Agriculture

Morocco wants to improve the use of fertilizer in agricultural production in Africa. In this sense, the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) has decided to make a significant quantity of fertilizer available to many countries in order to support agricultural performance.
A total of 370,000 tons of fertilizer will be sold at reduced prices by the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) to African countries. This was announced by Nada Elmajdoub, Executive Vice President of Group Performance Management, on the sidelines of the 14th edition of the USA-Africa Business Summit held in Marrakech. She stressed that this decision aims to relieve these countries in the face of the surge in fertilizer prices on the world market due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The released stock of fertilizer will be accompanied by a donation of 180,000 tons of nutrients to the African continent.
Morocco, through its gesture, is thus following in the footsteps of the AfDB, which has announced its intention to provide 500,000 tons of fertilizer by the end of August to several West African countries, including Mali, Burkina Faso and Ghana. For the African Development Bank, it is a matter of compensating for the current deficit.
