Morocco to Offer Compensation for Teachers in Rural and Remote Areas

Teachers working in remote areas will be able to breathe a sigh of relief. The Minister of National Education announced on January 6 before the House of Representatives that the government is working to provide them with compensation.
This promise made to teachers assigned to remote areas will be materialized by the issuance of a decree, according to Saaid Amzazi, the Minister of Education. The preparation of this decree comes within the framework of the application of Article 20 of the framework law on the education, training and scientific research system. It provides for the creation of a special system of motivation and encouragement for teaching and administrative staff in the exercise of their duties in rural and priority areas.
First of all, the minister took care to explain that the suspension of the compensation project has been in place since 2012, because "certain commissions have considered all the provinces as being remote areas." A situation that has led to confusion in the chosen criteria, leading to the cessation of the granting of compensation.
Today, with the government’s willingness to renew this policy of encouragement, more than 50,000 employees in the sector will benefit from these allowances if the decision is made, the same source confides.
