Morocco’s Notaries Create Blacklist of Untrustworthy Real Estate Developers

The National Council of the Order of Notaries of Morocco intends to contribute to the efforts made to "establish contractual security". In this sense, the organization has decided to establish a blacklist of "undesirable" real estate developers.
The names of developers "convicted of having caused problems related to breach of trust by violating their contractual obligations both towards notaries and clients" will appear on this blacklist. This blacklist will be generalized to all members of the National Council of the Order of Notaries of Morocco. This should contribute to the efforts made to "establish contractual security" in Morocco. "Improving the investment climate is the responsibility of everyone and, as a national institution, the Order of Notaries must contribute its share to the effort," said Hicham Sabiry, President of the National Council of the Order of Notaries of Morocco, to Hespress.
Justifying the implementation of the blacklist, Sabiry made it clear that "contractual security can only be realized with honest notaries and real estate developers of the same caliber, with the support of equally transparent public administrations." Those who trample on these rules "will therefore find themselves excluded from the system," he added. Troubles in prospect for "real estate developers specialized in creating problems wherever they set foot."
The implementation of this decision will be a source of tension between developers and notaries. The former need the latter for real estate transactions.
