Morocco’s Northern Airports See Surge in Passengers as Air Links Reopen

The reopening of Moroccan air links on February 7, 2022 benefits the northern airports. The number of passengers continues to increase.
After two lean years due to the health crisis related to Covid-19, the tide is turning. Ibn Battouta airport in Tangier welcomed 110,154 passengers from February 7 to March 31, a recovery rate of 113% compared to the same period in 2019, according to data from the National Airports Office (ONDA). The same is true for Saniat Rmel airport in Tetouan, where the number of travelers reached 16,600 (a recovery rate of 1,565% according to ONDA). The same airport had recorded one of the strongest growth rates in the region last summer with more than 133% compared to the same period in 2019.
At the origin of this upturn, the enthusiasm recorded in the countries of Southern Europe, especially Spain, for Northern Morocco, but also the increase in air links, explain to L’Économiste the tourism operators.
