Morocco Nears Natural Gas Exporter Status as Pipeline Project Advances

According to Moroccan experts, the kingdom is "a step away from joining the club of natural gas exporters", after the British group Sound Energy received the green light from the Moroccan government to assess the environmental impact of the new 120 km pipeline, which is to connect Morocco to Europe.
Negotiations between the two parties, as to the long-term operation of the 50-meter diameter pipeline, should continue until the end of March, reports Akhbarona.
The preliminary meetings between Sound Energy and the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding detailing the conditions for the acquisition of natural gas for the commissioning of power plants.
With a stock of 20 billion m3, discovered over an area of 14,500 km² in the Tendrara region, Sound Energy plans to start natural gas production from 2021.
For his part, Aziz Rebbah, Minister of Energy and Mines, had announced, during a television program, that the forecast quantity of natural gas in Morocco will cover 40% of the country’s needs over a period of 10 years.
