Morocco Nears $280 Million Deal for Spanish Warships, Boosting Naval Capabilities

Negotiations are continuing between Morocco and Spain for the acquisition of two military ships, of the Avante type, with the Spanish shipbuilding company, Navantia.
At the current stage, only the agreement of the Moroccan authorities remains for the contract for the acquisition of the two warships to be signed, says Defense Web. According to the same source, the length of the Avante ship is about 80 meters. It can carry a load of 1,500 tons and a helicopter. The ship can accommodate about 35 crew members and 30 other people.
The acquisition of the two Avante-type warships will cost 260 million euros, including maintenance costs. These ships can carry out a wide range of missions such as external firefighting, personnel and material transport, as well as search, rescue and rapid intervention operations.
