Morocco’s Naval Exercises Near Canary Islands Spark Diplomatic Talks with Spain

The naval exercises conducted by Morocco off the Canary Islands are taking place in "well-defined and very remote areas from Spanish waters," assured the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, after the concerns expressed by the government of the archipelago.
The head of Spanish diplomacy had spoken on the phone with the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, who had expressed his concern about the holding of naval exercises by the Royal Moroccan Navy in the waters of the Sahara, off the archipelago, reports Europa Press, specifying that the officials have agreed to hold a meeting soon to address the issue.
Sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated to the media that Albares and Clavijo recognized the importance for Spain and the Canary Islands to maintain good relations with Morocco. The minister also reiterated his "permanent availability" to address any issue affecting the Canary Islands.
