Morocco's Natural Gas Potential Attracts Global Interest, Sound Energy Executive Says

Morocco has a strong potential for natural gas, whose attractiveness is constantly increasing. Graham Lyon, executive chairman of Sound Energy, assures that everyone now wants Moroccan gas.

"After years of steady progress, the Tendrara gas project in Morocco is showing promising prospects," said Graham Lyon, executive chairman of Sound Energy, in an interview with Proactive, welcoming the progress made by the British company. The latter has gone "from producing a small volume of gas to a real Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production system".

Sound Energy is displaying new ambitions in the field of renewable energies. Speaking about the next steps in the development of this system, the executive revealed that the objectives and the work of recent years are starting to bear fruit, particularly in terms of infrastructure and cooperation with other energy sector players. This progress is explained by the need for alternative gas supplies following the war in Ukraine and Morocco’s own development requirements, which have boosted interest with multiple loan financing, notably with Afriquia Gaz.

Graham Lyon specifies that these financings will allow the construction of a 120 km secondary line to connect to the Moroccan gas network. This will boost production and secure a significant portion of gas demand in Morocco. This $250 million project is not only focused on this secondary pipeline. The project also includes new wells and a gas treatment plant. A real opportunity to supply gas to Morocco and export it to Spain and Portugal, after Algeria’s decision to close the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline crossing Morocco.

These many opportunities lead Graham Lyon to affirm that "now everyone wants the Moroccan gas processed by Sound Energy".
