Morocco’s National Team Relocates as Agadir Stadium Closes for Renovations

The Adrar stadium in Agadir is about to close after the match of the Atlas Lions against Lesotho, next Monday. A closure that marks the beginning of a vast campaign to renovate the sports facilities of the Kingdom.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has confirmed: the next matches of the national team, scheduled for October as part of the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations, will take place in Oujda. A change of scenery that should not disturb the men of Walid Regragui, determined to continue their flawless journey.
For Hassania d’Agadir, on the other hand, it’s a headache that’s beginning. Deprived of its den, the Gadiri club will have to find a new playing field for the rest of the championship. A situation shared by other elite teams, as the stadiums of Marrakech, Rabat, Fez and Casablanca are also affected by these large-scale works.
These successive closures reflect Morocco’s ambition, which is preparing to host two major football events: the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025 and, above all, the World Cup in 2030, jointly with Spain and Portugal.
