Morocco's Mount Toubkal Ranks 6th in CNN's Top 20 Global Hiking Destinations

Mount Toubkal in Morocco is one of the 20 best hiking trails in the world, according to a ranking by CNN.

At 4,167 meters in altitude, Mount Toubkal is the highest peak in North Africa. The ascent to the summit is very difficult. The route starts from the village of Imlil, with a stopover at the sanctuary of Sidi Chamharouch to spend the night before crossing the snowfield to reach the summit where you have a magnificent view of the Atlas Mountains. In this CNN ranking, Mount Toubkal is in sixth place.

The Pennine Way in the United Kingdom tops this ranking. The trail is 431 km long and can be covered in three weeks. The Camino de Santiago in Spain comes in second. It crosses northern Spain from the Pyrenees in France to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. In third place, the Appalachian Trail in the United States. 3,540 km long, it extends from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin.

The other trails in the ranking are respectively the Basho Wayfarer in Japan, the Refugio Frey and Cerro Catedral in Argentina, the Great Wall of China (Jinshanling), the Dragon’s Back in Hong Kong, the Dingle Way in Ireland, the Tergo La Trek in Bhutan, the Tahoe Rim Trail in the United States, the Silk Road in Armenia, the Lechweg Trail between Austria and Germany, the Indus Valley (Himalaya) in India, the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda, the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island, the Percorsi Occitani in Italy, the Lares and Inca Royal Trail in Peru, the Monteverde Forest in Costa Rica and the Lycian Way in Turkey.
