Morocco Modernizes Highway Tolls: New System Promises Faster Travel on Major Routes

The National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) is taking action to facilitate traffic in the kingdom. It has just carried out the construction of a new generation of toll plazas on the Casablanca-Berrechid axis, thus allowing users to optimize travel conditions.
To allow users of the axes connecting Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir and Beni Mellal to travel with ease, ADM is innovating, by moving from an open toll system to a closed toll system, so that the journey between the starting city and the destination city is made without stopping.
"ADM has today completed two new generation toll plazas. The first is located at the Berrechid-Nord interchange and the second at Berrechid-Sud. The objective is to reduce the number of stops for users coming from the South and also those coming from Beni Mellal. With the new toll plazas, there will be only one stop for those coming from the south, Agadir, Marrakech,... and from Beni Mellal, up to the Bouskoura toll plaza," said Omar Sikkal, Managing Director of ADM Project, a subsidiary of the National Motorway Company of Morocco, in charge of the project.
To optimize travel conditions, Omar Sikkal recommends the automatic payment mode, the Jawad Pass, which allows you to pass without stopping, without contact, without additional cost, compared to the cash payment method.
These two projects were completed in five months, with 100% Moroccan skills (110 jobs), and cost the kingdom a total of 40 million DH, despite traffic reaching an average of 70,000 vehicles/day, in times of health crisis, specified challenge.ma.
The work on the second phase of this major project launched in January 2020 and financed by ADM is progressing rapidly. This phase concerns in particular the high-traffic motorway sections, serving vital infrastructure and requiring the maintenance of traffic in both directions, the same source specified.
