Morocco’s Mendyl Eyes National Team Return After 3-Year Absence

The new coach of the Atlas Lions seems willing to give a chance to former players excluded from the national team. In the extended pre-list presented by Walid Regragui, the name of some former players such as Hamza Mendyl, whose last appearance with the Atlas Lions dates back to 2020, appears.
In an interview with "Radio Voltaire", the left-back of the Belgian club OH Louvain, Hamza Mendyl confirmed his presence on Walid Regragui’s pre-list. The 24-year-old player had not been called up since 2020. There is a strong chance that he will make his return to the national team for the next two friendly matches to be held this September against Paraguay and Chile.
"I just learned that I am on the pre-list for the next two friendly matches of the national team. My presence on the list proves that the work I have done has finally paid off. With my club, I am starting to win my place as a starter and I will continue to progress," rejoiced the Moroccan international.
The player considers that Walid Regragui’s arrival at the head of the national team is an opportunity. "He is a very good coach, who has achieved great things with the WAC and who has already played for the national team as a player. I think his experience will be an asset for the selection," said the former Schalke 04 player.
