Morocco's New Mega-Stadium Sparks World Cup 2030 Final Venue Debate

Spain is panicking at the idea that FIFA could choose the future Hassan II stadium for the 2030 World Cup final it will co-host with Morocco and Portugal, to the detriment of the Spanish stadiums, Santiago Bernabeu and Camp Nou.

Will the 2030 World Cup final take place at the future Hassan II stadium to be built in Benslimane (west), with a record capacity (115,000 spectators)? The appeal of the Grand Stadium of Casablanca makes the Spanish media fear that Morocco could snatch the organization of the final of the competition from Spain. They consider the kingdom as the main "competitor of Spain" for the opening match and the final of the World Cup. They see in this new field a main asset of Morocco, which represents a serious threat to the chances of the mythical Spanish stadiums, Santiago Bernabeu and Camp Nou, to host the final of the competition in 2030, reports Al Akhbar.

"The large stadium that will be built in Benslimane (west), with a capacity of 115,000 seats, will be exceptional in all respects. It will be the largest and best football monument in the world and will contribute to the influence of the cultural heritage that abounds in the kingdom," said Fouzi Lekjaâ, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on the sidelines of an expanded meeting held in July in the city of Casablanca (west) to assess the preparations for hosting the World Cup, chaired by the Moroccan Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit. The new field will be built on a plot of about 100 hectares. The jewel will include 5 levels, 32 stairs, suspended gardens 28 meters from the ground, etc.
