Morocco’s Mawazine Music Festival Canceled Due to Coronavirus Concerns

The 2020 edition of the Moroccan festival "Mawazine Rhythms of the World" has been canceled, due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Initially scheduled for June 19 to 27, 2020, the 19th edition of one of the world’s largest music festivals will not take place, "in accordance with the preventive security measures recommended by the Moroccan authorities and the World Health Organization (WHO) which recommend restricting large events," says the Maroc Cultures association, the organizer of the event.
This festival, created in 2001, opens the music festival season in the kingdom each year, with a large number of Western and Eastern stars. More than a hundred artists from around the world parade on half a dozen venues in Rabat, at the mouth of the Bouregreg, on the Chellah site, known for its remains of a Roman city, and in the neighboring city of Salé.
According to the organizers, the event had attracted 2.75 million spectators in 2019. This year, the program for the 2020 edition had not yet been unveiled before the decision to cancel it.
In addition, the Timitar festival, another flagship cultural event in the kingdom, held in Agadir, has also been canceled.
