Morocco’s Mask Makers Face Import Flood, Testing National Production Push

While the Moroccan authorities have stimulated the local manufacture of sanitary products to meet the needs of the population, the same products are imported and flooding the local market to the dismay of local economic operators.
Moroccan companies have responded to the call of the public authorities by investing in large-scale production of sanitary products to the point that the national market has not experienced any shortages of hygiene products and parapharmaceutical products such as masks or muzzles and disinfectants, observes Challenge.ma. However, economic actors are facing a major difficulty: the same products have been imported and are invading the local market.
The worst part is that the public authorities have not taken any measures to ensure a minimum of protection for national production as required by the free trade agreements signed by Morocco. Economic actors are the big losers in the sense that they are prohibited from exporting their products. This situation could have a negative impact on Moroccan companies. It puts national preference to the test.
