New Morocco-UK Maritime Route to Bypass Brexit Hurdles, Boost Trade

The launch of the maritime line connecting the port of Tanger Med to that of Poole (United Kingdom) should be effective this September. What are its advantages for Morocco?
Announced last February, the maritime line Morocco (Tanger Med)/United Kingdom (Poole) should be operational during this month. A recent announcement confirmed by Simon Martin, the British Ambassador to Morocco, during a media outing. This new weekly RoRo maritime service without stopover will notably allow Moroccan operators to avoid the many border procedures generated by Brexit on goods arriving via Europe by road, reports Challenge. United Seaways is in charge.
According to Younes Lamarti, Managing Director of Bolloré Transport & Logistics Morocco, the opening of this line is a considerable opportunity, as the United Kingdom is an important market for Morocco. In addition, this new service will promote exports, particularly of agricultural products, he adds. It will not only provide a significant time saving for operators, but will also reduce costs, and could also benefit goods from sub-Saharan Africa.
"In this new dynamic, sub-Saharan traffic will undoubtedly increase considerably. The port of Dakhla will be called upon to play an important role and Morocco could then become the port hub for all goods coming from the South to the countries of the North," analyzes Younes Lamarti.
