Morocco: Luxury villas on the beach, corruption and demolition

Suspicions of corruption surround the construction of luxury villas on the public maritime domain in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.
The Ministry of the Interior has opened an urgent investigation to determine the responsibilities and sanctions to be taken.
Parliamentarians and influential personalities are among the people suspected of being involved in these illegal constructions, reports the local site Tanja24. The investigation aims to verify the authorizations and permits issued for these villas, as well as the origin of the funds used for their construction.
Demolition operations have already begun this week. Local authorities have notified the owners of the villas concerned and ordered their destruction. This action is part of a large-scale campaign to combat the illegal occupation of beaches and preserve the public maritime domain.
