Illegal Luxury Villas Face Demolition in Morocco’s Salé Region

Following the imminent announcement of demolition operations, elected officials and influential personalities are rushing to evacuate the luxurious villas they have illegally built in the area under the jurisdiction of the prefecture of Salé in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region.
"Several owners of estates who have built homes in the form of large villas with swimming pools and who have received demolition orders have started, since the end of last week, to move their furniture and belongings for fear of seeing them damaged during the operations that the authorities will start in the coming hours," reports a source to the local site Rue20.
In Salé, some people claiming to be influential have built luxurious villas on agricultural land, some of which have been transformed into "small tourist complexes" generating millions. Likewise, a number of influential personalities and some close to leading elected officials have become owners of estates transformed into quasi "hotels" under the cover of the law, particularly in the Sidi Chafi region in the same prefecture, it is reported. Acts for which the urban planning department of the city of Salé is accused of complacency.
