Morocco Lifts Anti-Dumping Duties on Jordanian Textile Imports

Morocco has decided to exempt the Jordanian textile sector from anti-dumping duties on its imports. Jordan ranks first in the Arab world and third globally.

In a statement, Ehab Qadri, representative of the textile and clothing sector at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), said that the decision was made after two years of continuous and joint efforts and actions taken by the JCI and textile companies. Since its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the JCI has sought the support of Mohamed Taqatqa, an international expert on WTO issues. Consultative interviews and field visits were organized by the Moroccan authorities with the Jordanian industries to verify their files and directly control their actual production.

Ehab Qadri praised the "effective" role of the Jordanian Ministry of Industry and Trade. According to him, the exemption is clear proof of the "high" competitiveness of Jordanian products, in terms of price and quality, and confirms the credibility of Jordanian factories, which would strengthen the confidence of foreign countries in this regard. The official hopes that the Moroccan decision will benefit the industrial companies by preserving their export markets, including Morocco, in addition to increasing their share and presence in other global markets.

Ehab Qadri also said that the Moroccan decision has been applied to China and Egypt, following the increase in Moroccan textile imports, whose selling price on the Moroccan markets is lower than the manufacturing cost in the country of origin in Egypt and China.
