Morocco to Lift Health Emergency on July 10 as Economic Concerns Grow

After three months of confinement, Moroccans are eager to resume a normal life as of July 10, the date of the lifting of the state of health emergency. They hope to celebrate Eid Al-Adha and plan to take a few days off. Deconfinement is progressing gradually, even if the post-deconfinement period raises questions and fears.

The perverse effects of the health crisis on the economy are clearly visible. With factories that have closed, commercial activities at a standstill and hundreds of thousands of jobs lost, the return to normal life looks difficult for Moroccans.

Already, many calls to cancel the celebration of Eid Al-Adha are being heard, reports the daily Assabah which specifies that, in the current situation, many Moroccans do not have the means to buy a sheep. A situation that would not be unprecedented, since under the reign of the late Hassan II, celebrations of holidays had been canceled for reasons of economic crisis and drought.

In any case, the final word rests with King Mohammed VI, said the Head of Government, El Othmani, however stressing during an intervention on Tuesday, June 17, before the House of Advisors, that "everything that is not prohibited is authorized".

Wanting to be more reassuring, the Minister of Agriculture, Aziz Akhannouch, announced that all arrangements have been made for a good celebration of Eid Al-Adha. According to him, more than 2.6 million sheep have already been vaccinated by the ONSSA and the organization of livestock markets is being prepared, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior.

One thing is certain. Moroccans are impatient to find the cafes, restaurants and other places of entertainment, in order to have fun and get rid of the stress of confinement.
