Morocco Leads Russian Blueberry Market, Exports Surge 36% Despite Pandemic

Fruit exports to the Russian market reached 1,900 tons and generated $13.7 million in the first half of 2020. Morocco thus confirms its position as Russia’s leading fruit supplier.
Morocco remains Russia’s leading blueberry supplier, despite the disruptions related to the coronavirus. According to data relayed by Freshplaza, the Kingdom exported 1,900 tons of this fruit to the country in the first 6 months of the year, an increase of 36.4% compared to the same period in 2019 and more than 45% of the total purchases made by Russia during this period (4,200 tons).
The country earned $13.7 million from this feat, a little less than half the value of Russian imports ($30.5 million), confirming its strong presence in the red fruit sector, which includes blueberries, raspberries and strawberries.
With nearly half of the cultivated areas, the province of Larache is the main red fruit production region in Morocco. This sector produces 200,000 tons of fruit per year. The country earns an average of more than $350 million in exports from it.
