Morocco Leads in Renewable Energy, Surpassing COP 25 Goals

Morocco’s investment in renewable energy is a successful endeavor that is attracting attention. In this regard, the Kingdom has managed to meet the COP 25 objectives, unlike certain major nations, notably France.
At COP 25, Morocco was commended for fulfilling its commitments. Its achievements in renewable energy have enabled it to reach these objectives. By 2030, the country dreams of going beyond its efforts by crossing the threshold of 52% renewable energy.
Installed at the gates of the desert in Ouarzazate, the solar power plant stands out due to its size and has become a source of pride for Morocco. The plant stores the heat reflected by thousands of mirrors and transforms it into electricity. The mirrors follow the sun’s path throughout the day, describes France Info.
This plant has been installed for nearly five years on a 300-hectare arid land with a maximum sunshine of 320 days per year. To produce this green energy, Morocco has installed solar panels as far as the eye can see, at an investment of more than 2 billion euros.
According to the surrounding population, this project is a lifesaver. "When I’m in the city, I don’t breathe as well as I do here. I always look forward to going back," says a registrar from Ouarzazate, Myriam Aberdin. Others say they are not bothered by the wind turbines, even if over time they will end up producing nuisance effects.
