Morocco Leads in Importing Tunisian Dates, Official Data Shows

Morocco is at the top of the countries importing Tunisian dates over the past five months, according to official Tunisian sources. The kingdom imported 22.8% of the total Tunisian exports of this much-prized fruit during the month of Ramadan.
According to data from the Tunisian National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), Morocco is the leading importer of Tunisian dates, "with a share of 22.8% of the quantities exported during the first five months of the 2024/2025 season, followed by Italy with 9.9%, then France with 6.9%".
In a document entitled "Monitoring of Tunisian date exports during the period from October 2024 to the end of February 2025", the institution indicated that the average price of dates was set at 6.02 dinars per kilo (about 18.85 Moroccan dirhams) at the end of February, "recording a decrease of 1.9% compared to the same month of the previous season".
During the period, Tunisia exported a total of 90,300 tons of dates, compared to 92,900 tons during the same period the previous year, representing a decrease of 2.9%, the document noted, stressing that "the Deglet Nour variety alone accounts for 86.8% of the total export volume".
The quantities of dates exported between October 2024 and the end of February 2025 earned the Tunisian state 581.8 million Tunisian dinars, compared to 587.8 million dinars the previous year, a "slight decrease of 1%". In terms of destinations, the European Union absorbed 37.3% of Tunisian date exports, followed by Africa (28.9%) and Asia (23.7%).
