Morocco Leads Arab Textile Exports to Brazil, Reaching $7 Million in First Half of 2020

Among the Arab countries importing textiles to Brazil, Morocco has emerged as the top ranking during the first half of 2020, with a volume of $6.99 million, according to the Arab-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce.
Moroccan textiles have increased their exports to Brazil in recent years, as have Egypt and Tunisia. For the first half of 2020, Morocco is the leading exporter with $6.99 million, followed by Egypt as the second with $5.14 million and Tunisia with $1.92 million in third place.
However, these figures represent a decline compared to last year, particularly due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, total export revenues to Brazil fell by 33% year-on-year in the first half of 2020.
The president of the Brazilian textile and clothing industry association (abit), Fernando Pimentel, explained that demand has been weaker, and it is therefore likely that total sales, not just those of Arab countries, will behave in 2020 as they did in 2019. He also notes that textile imports to Brazil are expected to decline by 25% this year.
It should be noted, however, that Asians have historically been Brazil’s leading textile suppliers. At the head of the pack is China, which accounts for half of Brazil’s total textile imports.
