Morocco Leads Africa in Social Protection Reform, EBRD President Says

Looking at the table of implementation of social protection, Morocco is close to occupying the first rank on the African continent. This is what the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, affirmed during her first official visit to Morocco on May 24 and 25 in virtual format.

This project "will have direct and tangible effects on improving the living conditions of citizens," Ms. Renaud-Basso told MAP, adding that farmers, artisans and other self-employed private employees are gaining in terms of care offerings. Given "that Morocco currently needs 35,000 additional doctors and 57,000 additional nurses to comply with the standards of the World Health Organization," not to mention many other challenges, the health department will open up to investment, she indicated.

On Monday, the President of the EBRD met with the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, Mohamed Benchaâboun, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, as well as private sector operators and civil society actors.

On the agenda, issues related in particular to the post-Covid-19 recovery and the bank’s investments in the kingdom.
