Morocco Launches Undercover Hotel Inspections Ahead of Major Sporting Events

Concern is growing among hotel and tourist accommodation owners in Morocco. Indeed, a "mystery guest" is about to inspect their establishments in the coming weeks. His mission: to evaluate the quality of services and write reports that could shake up the current hotel rankings.
This initiative, announced by Fatima-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, is part of Morocco’s preparations for the organization of the Africa and World Cups. The goal is clear: to raise the level of the country’s tourist establishments.
Concretely, the "mystery guest" will work in collaboration with a specialized regional commission. Together, they will scrutinize hotels and accommodation centers in order to establish a new ranking, reports the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
"We want to adopt a fairer and more transparent ranking," said Ms. Ammor in response to a question from the Moroccan Union of Labor group in the House of Advisors. "The mystery guest’s report will help strengthen the quality control of hotel services."
In parallel with this operation, the Ministry of Tourism is working hand in hand with the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the legal framework of tourism professions. Implementation texts of law 14.80 relating to tourist establishments and other forms of tourist accommodation have also been recently published.
