Morocco Launches Tender for Key Phase of Guercif-Nador Highway Project

The Guercif-Nador highway project is progressing. The regional director of Equipment, Transport and Logistics of the Oriental region has recently launched a call for tenders for the prequalification of companies for the execution of the works.

Partially financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB), this project, for which the Ministry of Equipment and Water is the project owner, aims to improve the transport infrastructure in the Oriental region, reports Challenge. The first lot of the highway connecting Guercif to Nador, which concerns the Guercif-Saka section of 36.5 km, has been subdivided into three sub-lots: PK 0+000 to PK 10+600, PK 10+600 to PK 24+400 and PK 24+400 to PK 36+475.

This section will be built in 2×2 lanes with a 2.50-meter emergency lane, and will include six viaducts, 46 culverts, an interchange at the Saka level, 18 restorations and a bifurcation, reports Challenge. The two other lots of the project are those connecting Saka to Driouch (40.5 km) and Driouch to Nador West Med (27 km). The project also plans to connect the city of Nador and the new port of Nador West Med to the national motorway network, over a total length of 104 km.

Two main interchanges will be built: one in Saka (RR512), and the other in Driouch (RN2). A bifurcation is planned on the Taza-Oujda highway and a roundabout at the end of the project (RN16). The estimated cost of the project is 7.4 billion dirhams including taxes. The construction of the Guercif-Nador highway will help open up the northeastern region of Morocco and ensure connectivity with the new port of Nador West-Med, whose activities will be launched at the end of 2024.
