Morocco Launches Tender for High-Speed Rail Line from Kénitra to Marrakech

The National Railway Office (ONCF) has launched a call for tenders for the supply of track equipment for the major project of the High Speed Line connecting Kénitra to Marrakech, the realization of which should be effective before 2030, the year when Morocco will co-host the World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

The National Railway Office (ONCF) is active in the realization of the new High Speed Line (LGV) project Kénitra-Marrakech. On Thursday, it launched a call for tenders for the supply of track equipment, reports Le360. A contract divided into three lots, with a total estimated value of around 1 billion dirhams: supply of track equipment for the Kénitra-Marrakech LGV, not equipped with a maneuvering, locking and signaling control system, for an amount of 584.1 million dirhams; supply of track equipment for the conventional line between Kénitra and Marrakech, not equipped with a maneuvering, locking and signaling control system, for an amount of 377.8 million dirhams and supply of expansion devices for civil engineering structures, for an amount of 31 million dirhams. The ONCF sets the delivery time for the second lot at 48 months and for the third lot at 12 months.

Designed for a maximum speed of 350 km/h, the line connecting Kénitra to Marrakech will be operated at 320 km/h, over a route of about 450 km. It is planned to directly connect Tangier to Marrakech without going through Casablanca. Two routes have been proposed for the train’s arrival in Casablanca. It is also planned that the high-speed train line will pass through an alternative route in Benslimane (the stadium) towards Nouaceur. This will host the establishment of a new station or a distribution center.

The Kénitra-Marrakech TGV project aims to revolutionize travel between the two cities. It is an integral part of the ONCF’s colossal plan to interconnect the cities, ports and airports of Morocco through high-speed rail links operating at speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour.
