The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, assured on Friday of the strong involvement of his department in the reconstruction plan for the historical sites affected by the earthquake.
In a statement to the press after visiting several sites in Marrakech and the provinces of Al Haouz and Ouarzazate, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said that, in accordance with the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, his department is strongly involved in the reconstruction plan for the historical sites affected by the earthquake, particularly with regard to the assessment of risks to the population and the protection of these monuments.
In detail, the minister specifies that the Bahia and El Badii Palaces, which have not suffered significant damage, should be able to accommodate 50% of their capacity. On the other hand, the Tinmel Mosque, which has suffered major damage, will be rehabilitated, in collaboration with the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs and the local authorities, he said.
All the actors and sectors concerned are working to ensure that life returns to normal in the areas affected by the earthquake, Bensaid assured, hailing the incredible outpouring of solidarity from Moroccans during this difficult period.
Except for a few cracks, the Badii Palace was not really affected by the earthquake, said Hasna Haddaoui, the curator, adding that the technical study offices that visited the monuments with the minister will establish a clear diagnosis of their condition. The Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, as well as central and regional officials, also took part in this visit alongside the minister.
