Moroccan Icon Latifa Raafat Reveals Royal Influence on Her Enduring Career

Moroccan singer Latifa Raafat shares insights into her relationship with King Hassan II. She reveals the valuable advice the monarch gave her at the start of her career, recommendations that have durably influenced her artistic choices and her decision to remain in Morocco.
The late king advised her to focus on national songs and to revive old works, especially when she was leaning towards songs from the Eastern repertoire. Latifa Raafat claims to have followed this guideline since the beginning of her career, choosing to pursue her career in Morocco, unlike other artists who have settled abroad.
As a result of this choice, she asserts that she has not faced the issue of preference sometimes given to foreign artists during events, whether in material or moral terms. The singer declares that she has always benefited from the management of her affairs and a treatment that she considers deserving, both in Morocco and abroad.
Regarding more personal aspects, such as a possible withdrawal from the music scene, the artist believes that the idea is feasible. However, she clarifies her thoughts by adding: "but if my passion for singing persists, I don’t think I will be a burden to the public." On the issue of wearing the veil, she considers it a divine favor accessible to all women, not just artists.
Finally, Latifa Raafat has justified the less frequent release of her works by a different working method than that of young artists. While the latter produce a title every three or four months, she explains that she has maintained her historical pace of one release per year.
