Faith Fuels Fame: How Vitaa's Muslim Beliefs Drive Her Music and Motherhood

Singer and mother, Vitaa thrives in her professional and family life thanks to her Muslim faith, an essential pillar that helps her overcome the trials of life on a daily basis.

Revealed in 2006 with the title "Confessions nocturnes", a collaboration with Diam’s, Vitaa continues her career with faith. The singer who needs no introduction is married to Hicham Bendaoud and mother of three children: Liham, 14; Adam, 11; and Noa, 3. In an interview published on Friday, August 8 on the YouTube channel "Legend", the artist revealed the importance of faith in her life. "Faith has helped me in my career, but also in my life, simply. That’s my secret. I’m told all the time: ’You haven’t changed, you’re a simple person.’ I’m a wild person, I always have been. I get that from my father. I’ve never been a celebrity, nor comfortable in this profession. Being in the spotlight... You come out of a TV show, everyone’s going to drink champagne, etc., me, I go home. I’m comfortable in my circle. My peace is my faith. I’ve always prayed all my life. I never miss a prayer, whether for a show or anything else, it’s really in me. I need to pray five times a day, to empty my heart, to cling to that," she confides.

Vitaa stated that faith has helped her get through difficult periods in her life. "When suddenly something a bit trivial takes up a bit too much space in my head, I come back down and tell myself that it’s just a job, and one day I’ll die. I even tell my children that. There’s always something more serious. We have to put things in perspective and keep the positive [...] After my home-jacking, I was told to see a psychologist, but my psychologist is my prayer. The first few months I thought about it a lot but now almost not at all," the singer confesses. Vitaa had revealed in an interview with Libération in July 2017 that she was Muslim like her husband Hicham, and "very devout". For the mother, faith is an essential pillar of her personal and artistic life.
