Morocco Launches Probe into Pegasus Spyware Allegations, Denies Involvement

The espionage allegations against Morocco have led to the opening of a judicial investigation into false allegations contained in articles published by foreign newspapers. The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office has just given instructions to the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat and to the National Brigade of the Judicial Police (BNPJ).
After taking note of certain media reports and articles published by foreign newspapers gathered under the banner of a coalition called "Forbidden Stories", which contain serious accusations and allegations against the Moroccan public authorities and implicate the national constitutional institutions in matters affecting the higher interests of the Kingdom of Morocco; and following the press release issued by the Moroccan government in which it denounces these allegations and accusations; and given their systematic recurrence targeting national law enforcement institutions in a way that includes the material and moral constituent elements of alleged crimes, incriminated and sanctioned by the Moroccan Penal Code, the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office has given written instructions to the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat to open a judicial investigation into these false allegations and accusations and to identify the parties responsible for their publication, the statement said.
On this basis, the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Rabat has instructed the National Brigade of the Judicial Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, in order to determine the circumstances and elucidate the ins and outs surrounding the publication of these accusations and allegations and to establish the responsibilities and the legal consequences resulting therefrom in the light of the results of the investigation, the same source specifies.
