Mohammed VI launches national consultation on the future of the Sahara

According to a statement from the Royal Cabinet, this meeting was devoted to "the updating and detailed formulation of the autonomy initiative", within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty. It follows the royal decision announced during the speech of October 31, which drew the conclusions of the adoption of Resolution 2797 of the Security Council.

This meeting is part of the "participatory and broad-based consultative approach" desired by the sovereign for the major causes of the country. The royal advisers, Taieb Fassi Fihri, Omar Azziman and Fouad Ali El Himma, informed the party leaders of the King’s desire to consult them on this "crucial issue" and invited them to "submit visions and proposals from their organizations" concerning this update.

The heads of the political parties present welcomed the recent positive developments in the file and expressed their "pride in the Royal Decision to associate the national political bodies" with the development of this detailed vision. They stressed that this initiative was able to guarantee the return of the populations from the Tindouf camps to contribute to the management of their local affairs "within the bosom of united Morocco".

They also reaffirmed their "constant mobilization" under the leadership of the King and their "total support" for the diplomatic efforts that led to the recent UN resolution. In response to the royal invitation, the party leaders confirmed their commitment to submit memoranda on the subject to the sovereign "as soon as possible".
