New appeal to King Mohammed VI
Mohamed Ouzzine has chosen the symbolic city of Al Hoceima to launch a solemn appeal to King Mohammed VI. The leader of the Popular Movement is asking for the pardon of the Hirak detainees to definitively close the tensions of the past, while violently accusing the government of electoral bargaining on the backs of the poor.
The Secretary General of the Popular Movement spoke from a city he describes as the "land of resistance and national unity". Mohamed Ouzzine has requested the "royal benevolence" in favor of the incarcerated young Moroccans, specifically citing those from the Rif and Generation Z. For him, these detentions belong to social contexts and tensions that are now obsolete. He invokes the legacy of reconciliation initiated by the Sovereign, from the Ajdir speech to the Equity and Reconciliation Instance, to plead that the divergence of opinion must be able to exist under the roof of the nation.
The speech then targeted the governing coalition, accusing the leaders of the "three parties" of diverting the royal project of social protection to serve a narrow electoral agenda. He considers the political rhetoric that claims to make citizens live "from the cradle to the grave" or that dares to "measure Moroccans at 500 dirhams" as "shameful". According to him, the population would reject these initiatives if they were aware of this partisan instrumentalization.
