GenZ212 in Morocco: and it’s off again!
The Support Committee for GenZ212 Families chooses the symbolism of December 10 to take to the streets. Faced with accusations of "live ammunition" in Leqliaa, the activists demand accountability from the authorities and the immediate release of the detainees.
The squares of several Moroccan cities are preparing for rallies this Tuesday. On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, the National Support Committee for the Families of the Victims of the GenZ212 Movement is mobilizing its troops under an explicit slogan: "Truth and justice for the martyrs of Leqliaa and freedom for all GenZ detainees".
The statement released by the organization makes serious accusations. The text directly points to the responsibility of the Royal Gendarmerie in the Leqliaa affair, referring to the use of "live ammunition" against civilians. The committee paints a grim picture of the past year, denouncing a systematic repression where ordinary citizens find themselves arrested for expressing their opinions.
The justice system is at the heart of the criticism. The activists describe biased procedures, marked by the absence of fair trial standards, violence during arrests, and inhumane prison conditions. They also report pressure exerted on the defendants to sign statements without reading them. The call demands the unconditional release of all incarcerated members of the group.
This protest movement follows the events of late September. While acts of vandalism had then tarnished some of the gatherings, GenZ212 rejects this violent legacy. The group attributes these excesses to isolated elements and reaffirms its peaceful vocation, focused on defending low-income households excluded from government policies.
