Morocco Launches Mobile App to Monitor Citizen Movement During COVID-19 Emergency

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has launched an application to track citizens in the way they comply with the state of emergency.
The application is currently in the pilot phase in Rabat and its region. It is part of the DGSN’s mobilization of "modern technological means to support the work of the security officer on the field and allow him to carry out his role in the fight against the spread of the new coronavirus" calmly.
It was developed by a team of engineers and technicians from the DGSN’s Directorate of Information and Communication Systems. It will help, it is assured, to limit the unnecessary movements of citizens and to compel them to respect the state of health emergency. It is in this context that the police commissioner and head of the Hassan district in the Agdal-Hassan-Ryad area, Aziz Alratmaoui, indicated to la Vie éco that "this mobile application will allow the police personnel to be informed about the control checkpoints through which the citizen has passed, thus facilitating the process of monitoring his movements".
As for the police commissioner and head of the smartphone application development department at the Directorate of Information and Communication Systems, Anas Bouklan, he stressed that "this application has been launched initially in the cities of Rabat, Salé and Témara and will be generalized nationwide later". He also called on citizens to strictly respect the state of health emergency, while advising them to travel only when necessary.
