Morocco Launches Massive HIV and Syphilis Screening for 20,000 Prisoners

The AIDS screening campaign launched in Moroccan prisons ends on December 25. According to the General Delegation for Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), 20,000 inmates will benefit from it.
This screening campaign was launched as part of World AIDS Day celebrated every December 1st. The DGAPR, in a press release explaining the rationale for this action, indicated that syphilis screening is also underway for the benefit of 2,000 prisoners.
The Association for the Fight against AIDS (ALCS) estimates that there were 900 new infections in 2018, 70% of which were women infected by their spouses. That is why early HIV diagnosis is essential to fight this disease, it is specified.
