Morocco launches the hunt, 102 criminals tracked worldwide

The message is clear: leaving the territory is no longer enough to escape Moroccan justice. In its latest report for the year 2024, the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office reveals an unprecedented intensification of judicial cooperation. With more than a hundred international arrest warrants issued, the Kingdom is tightening the noose on cross-border crime.

Impunity for fugitive offenders abroad is over. Morocco is now establishing itself as an indispensable partner in the fight against organized crime. In 2024, the public prosecutors of the Kingdom issued no less than 102 international search and arrest warrants. These procedures, relayed by Interpol and the Arab security channels, aim to repatriate individuals who have been convicted or prosecuted, regardless of their country of refuge.

Nador and Tangier, epicenters of the hunt

The geography of these warrants reveals the hotspots of crime. Not surprisingly, the gateway cities to Europe concentrate the bulk of judicial activity, often linked to drug trafficking and organized networks.

• Courts of Appeal: The Nador public prosecutor’s office is in the lead with 11 warrants issued (26% of the total), followed by those of El Jadida and Tangier.

• Courts of First Instance: It is Tangier that holds the record with 21 international warrants issued in a single year, ahead of Nador (12 warrants).

While the hunt is intensifying, it remains strictly regulated. The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is vigilant to ensure that these extradition requests respect fundamental rights and international conventions. The dual objective is to prevent the prescription of crimes and to ensure that the guilty, even thousands of kilometers away, eventually answer for their actions before the Moroccan courts.
