Mixed marriages in Morocco: more than 7,000 police investigations conducted in 2024
The Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office presented the data relating to the management of mixed marriages during the year 2024. The report details the volume of requests processed, the number of investigations initiated, and the decisions rendered in accordance with the provisions of the Family Code.
Under the legislation in force, the public prosecutor’s office intervenes as the main party in marriage procedures involving foreign nationals. For the year 2024, the various public prosecutor’s offices in the Kingdom recorded a total of 10,035 requests for authorization to marry between Moroccans and foreigners. The processing of these files resulted in the issuance of 10,422 requisitions by the public prosecutor’s office.
The investigation of these requests required the use of the judicial police services, which carried out 7,680 investigations. These investigations aim to verify the identity of the foreign spouse and to check the authenticity of the administrative documents produced. At the end of these verification procedures, the courts issued 8,977 judicial authorizations for mixed marriages.
The report also details the nature of the requisitions made by the public prosecutor’s office. Out of all the files, the public prosecutor’s office issued 3,357 favorable opinions and 6,175 requisitions requesting the strict application of the law. In addition, 350 requisitions for rejection were recorded, as well as 540 others related to specific situations.
