Morocco Launches 29-km Highway Project to Ease Casablanca Traffic Congestion

The National Motorway Company of Morocco (ADM) announces the launch of the tender for the first phase of the Tit Mellil-Berrechid Highway Construction project. Published on July 1, 2021, this tender concerns the project to build a section of about 29 km.

This new infrastructure will strengthen the motorway network in the Greater Casablanca region, informs an ADM press release which indicates that the project aims to relieve the exit roads of Casablanca which are reaching saturation and will also, thanks to the Casablanca bypass motorway, provide easier access to the different peripheral neighborhoods of Greater Casablanca.

"This project is part of the agreement relating to the development of roads and road infrastructure to improve traffic conditions in the Greater Casablanca region. It is mainly financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD)," the company points out.

The Tit Mellil - Berrechid motorway will also alleviate and streamline traffic on the Tit Mellil - Sidi Maarouf and Sidi Maarouf - Mohamed V Airport motorway sections, the note adds, stating that the first phase of this major project concerns a 20 km section, from the Berrechid Interchange to Regional Road No. 315.

"It will last 40 months, and will require the mobilization of 6 million cubic meters of earthworks, the construction of 4 viaducts and 19 overpasses and underpasses as well as the implementation of 412,000 tons of bituminous mixes," the company specifies.
