Morocco Launches Facebook-Powered Amber Alert System to Find Missing Children

The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) is currently setting up a new system to protect the safety of citizens, residents and foreigners. This is an innovative and integrated alert and search program for children reported missing under suspicious circumstances.
A state-of-the-art mechanism, equipped with the latest electronic and computer technologies in the field of crime control and the protection of the safety of citizens, residents and foreigners, this program is designed in partnership with META, the company that owns Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram, says a DGSN press release.
The system is inspired by the American "Amber Alert" mechanism available on the "Facebook" platform, which is linked to the reporting and search for missing children, in addition to the involvement of new information systems to accelerate the search to find and protect them, it is pointed out.
According to the explanations, the system has a complete overhaul of the procedure for reporting and searching for missing children by the competent police services. Thanks to this technique, the DGSN will obtain new data to determine the location of the missing child, including their hobbies, personal problems, the places they may frequent, and others, the note specifies, stating that it complies with the law, protects personal data and achieves the required effectiveness in protecting declared missing children.
The objective of such technology is to strengthen the hypotheses of locating missing children in shorter time frames, and increase the chances of neutralizing the dangers of physical or psychological aggression they may suffer and to which they are exposed during the period of disappearance, whether forced or voluntary.
