Morocco Launches Economic Zone Near Fnideq to Boost Regional Development

Located in the vicinity of Fnideq, the economic activity zone should come into service during the summer of 2021. The first works have started on a 10-hectare section for a project that should ultimately reach 90 hectares.

A few weeks before the start of the confinement for covid-19, the tender files were launched, reports L’Economiste. The project owner is the Agency for Promotion and Development and Tanger Med Zones has been selected as the delegated project owner.

While the total cost of this project is not yet known, a budget of 91.5 million dirhams is planned for the earthworks and road infrastructure. The first tranche of the budget is expected for the summer of 2021 after twelve months of work, pending the other tranches that will follow depending on demand.

According to the same source, this area will be dedicated to commerce but also to light processing industries. It aims, among other things, to create jobs in order to absorb the unemployment that has skyrocketed with the blockage of cross-border trade, at the level of Bab Sebta. This situation has worsened with the covid crisis. Thanks to this project, outlets and alternatives are now available and supported by the implementation of an import system for the transit of goods from the city of Ceuta via the port of Tanger Med.

Other projects are also planned, including a shopping center with an outlet. It includes various major brands in the world of decoration and ready-to-wear.
